How to Talk to Strangers
Updated: Feb 28
Today, I ran into a coaching buddy of mine that I haven't seen in a while. I flagged him down and we started talking about life and our kids and baseball. A few minutes later, he looked at me and said, "Remind me where I know you from."
It was at that moment I realized that I'd never met this man in my life. He was a doppelganger, and a darn good one.
We were both amused and continued to chat without missing a beat. It was quite a pleasant conversation. I may never see Chris again, but when I see the guy I thought I was talking to, I will be sure to tell the story.
If you have a hard time connecting with strangers, maybe just pretend they are somebody that you already know.
While today's experience was accidental, I might have to use this method again sometime.
I've heard it said by Jeremy Sheetinger, "Strangers are just friends I haven't met yet."
Striking up a conversation as if you already know them is one way to get your foot in the door.
