Handle With Care
Updated: Jan 28, 2020
I finished a book yesterday. I was going to write about it today. It will have to wait.
The death of Kobe Bryant shocked the world this morning. It was certainly shocking, thought I didn't feel the full weight of it upon first hearing the news. At first I didn't exactly understand the obsession. I respected Kobe as an athlete, and I'm not heartless, I'm just not the kind of person who gets starstruck or is infatuated with celebrity, and I never met the man.
As a father, hearing that his daughter died with him hit a little closer to home. But it got really heavy and a lot more real when I learned that a man that I have met, a fellow California Junior College baseball coach, John Altobelli (Orange Coast College) was also killed in the accident, along with his wife and one of his daughters.
My heart and my prayers go out to the families and friends of everyone involved.
Life is fragile.
Hold your loved ones close.
Tomorrow isn't a guarantee.
