Day 244

Updated: Oct 29, 2019

I always look forward to my Monday morning commute because I know that the newest episode of the One Percent Better podcast will be queued up and ready to go. And I know that Joe Ferraro's passionate and energetic, "Hello and welcome" is sure to get any remaining juices flowing. Morning push-ups and coffee get me primed and ready. "Hello and welcome" seals the deal.

This week's guest was Kevin Eastman, a retired former NBA assistant basketball coach, and the author of the newest book on my list, Why The Best Are The Best.

The interview covered an array of topics, but the pausing and rewinding started when Joe asked Kevin about his "WILT" journal. Eastman keeps a journal filled with notes about "What I Learned Today." Pretty good idea, if you ask me, but you didn't, so I'll move on.

The two things that struck me the most were on the topic of success.

"Success is an inside job."

Second was in reference to a conversation that he had with Michael Jordan, who was moderately successful, I guess:

"Success doesn't stop once you get there."

I've been tossing those thoughts around in my head all morning, and here's what I came up with:

Success is a perpetual journey marked by perseverance and grit, especially in the face of adversity. You will likely need some help along the way, but only you can determine where that journey will lead. Once you arrive, keep going.
