The essence of a team:
Love each other and work together to achieve a common objective.
This applies beyond the framework of athletics. It applies to anything that requires collaboration and working together in any industry. It also applies to friendships, family, marriage, parenting, and just about every other productive interpersonal relationship.
It is enhanced by the concept of Mudita: vicarious, selfless joy found in the successes of others.
Love is the key word, the great facilitator. Love is represented by kindness, empathy, and compassion. Love is "the unselfish, loyal, and benevolent concern for the good of another. (Miriam-Webster)"
Love is hard to define, but easy to see, and it can be expressed in many ways. The biblical definition of love, found in 1 Corinthians 13, is pretty powerful.
Love is the glue that holds us together when the going gets tough. Love completes us. Verse 7 tells us, "It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
Love each other and work together.
When love is at the root of our teams, the sky is the limit, and collective greatness can be achieved.
