Day 139
7/15/19
I've been an advocate for a set of standards rather than hard and fast rules for the entirety of my coaching career. I've heard both words defined a number of different ways, and maybe we're just playing a game of semantics; however, I heard them defined this past week, and I thought the definitions were perfect:
Rules are for people who can't follow direction. Standards are for people who aspire to do great things. - Tim Corbin
The next step for me is to employ this concept beyond the scope of the players that I coach and let it bleed into my own life, and how I raise my children.
Living by standards requires a great deal of character: discipline, integrity, humility, etc.
It's not easy, but it's worth it.
Aspire to do great things.
